Aging Studies Certificate

The number of Americans age 55 and older will almost double by 2030, swelling from one in five today to nearly one in three Americans. This makes working with older adults one of the hottest, most relevant career paths available. In fact, the number of jobs in gerontology-related fields is expected to increase by more than 36 percent by 2012. If you are currently working with older adults or considering a career in the aging network, this course is for you. It will help you better understand the aging process and needs of older adults, including the many physical and mental challenges they face. With this understanding, caregivers and career professionals will develop or increase an awareness and sensitivity to meeting the complex needs of the older generation. Topics include- dementia, client centered care, grief and loss, advance care directives, activity programming and principles of volunteer program management. The course addresses the interests of those working with older adults and anyone who has older grandparents, parents or friends. (LLI 7060)
